- Abstract:
- Objective To preliminarily evaluate the clinical efficacy of robot-assisted percutaneous radiofrequency ablation for osteoid osteoma of the femoral neck in children and adolescents. Methods A retrospective review was conducted for the relevant clinical data of 14 children and adolescents with osteoid osteoma of the femoral neck receiving robot-assisted percutaneous radiofrequency ablation at Department of Pediatric Orthopedics,Beijing Jishuitan Hospital,Capital Medical University from April 2025 to April 2026.This cohort included 7 boys and 7 girls with a mean age of (10.4±2.3)(7-14) year.Preoperative and final follow-up assessments included visual analogue scale (VAS) scores for hip pain, hip flexion-extension range of motion, hip adduction-abduction range of motion and hip rotational range of motion. Results All procedures were successfully completed. Mean operative duration was (46.1±8.4) min, intraoperative volume of blood loss (3.6±1.1) ml and incision length (8.7±1.3) mm.Intraoperatively Kirschner wire was successfully placed on the first attempt.Minimal follow-up period was 6 months. At the final follow-up,VAS score dropped significantly to (1.1±0.3) from a preoperative value of (6.8±0.4)(P<0.001).Hip flexion-extension range of motion significantly improved from (99.3±5.8)° preoperatively to (138.6±3.6)° at the final follow-up (P<0.001).Hip adduction-abduction range of motion spiked significantly from (42.9±3.2)°preoperatively to (78.2± 4.2)°at the final follow-up(P<0.001).Hip rotational range of motion also demonstrated significant improvement from (53.6± 4.6)°preoperatively to (94.3± 3.3)°at the final follow-up(P<0.001).No surgery-related complications were observed during follow-ups.Conclusions Robot-assisted percutaneous radiofrequency ablation proves to be a safe, effective and mini-invasive therapeutic option for osteoid osteoma of the femoral neck in children and adolescents.
