- Injury of intestinal mucosal barrier is one of primary manifestations of intestinal diseases in children,e.g.Hirschsprung-associated enterocolitis (HAEC) and inflammatory bowel disease (IBD).Currently there is a lack of effective measures for promoting the healing and regeneration of intestinal mucosal barrier.As the progenitor cells for intestinal mucosal barrier repair and regeneration,intestinal stem cells (ISCs) have brought hopes for future applications in clinical practices.This review focused upon the role of intestinal mucosal barrier in maintaining intestinal homeostasis and summarizes the mechanisms of ISCs in intestinal mucosal repair and regeneration,providing new rationales for managing inflammatory diseases in children.
