Clinical efficacy of suspension training plus Schroth exercise for mild idiopathic scoliosis in school-aged children

- Objective To explore the clinical efficacy of suspension training plus Schroth exercise for mild idiopathic scoliosis in school-aged children.Methods For this randomized controlled trial,46 children with scoliosis underwent rehabilitation interventions at Department of Rehabilitation Medicine,Hunan Provincial People’s Hospital between July 2024 and August 2025.They were randomized into two groups of control and treatment (n=23 each).Control group received Schroth exercise training while treatment group suspension training plus Schroth intervention.The intervention period lasted for 4 weeks.Primary outcome measures,including Cobb angle,angle of trunk rotation (ATR) and Scoliosis Research Society-22(SRS-22)score,were compared between two groups before and after intervention.Results In comparative analysis of therapeutic efficacy,treatment group demonstrated a significantly higher efficacious rate than control group (95.65% vs.78.26%) with a statistically significant difference (P<0.05).Cobb angle was significantly lower in treatment group than that in control group (7.65±2.10 vs.9.17±1.85°,P<0.05).Similarly,angle of trunk rotation (ATR) dropped significantly in treatment group[median (interquartile range):2(2-3) vs. 3(2-4) point; P<0.05].In contrast,no statistically significant inter-group difference existed in SRS-22 or total score (22.30±0.64 vs.22.48±1.24 point,P>0.05). Conclusions Suspension training plus Schroth exercise training can effectively boost Cobb angle and ATR for children with mild idiopathic scoliosis.
