Imaging characteristics and diaghostic analysis of rare parotid gland tumors in children
- Abstract:
- Objective To explore the clinical profiles and imaging features of rare parotid gland tumors and boost the preoperative diagnostic level of parotid gland lesions in children.Methods From January 2014 to May 2025,the relevant clinical data were retrospectively reviewed for 13 children of rare parotid gland tumors confirmed by pathological examination.Both computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) were systematically examined.Results There were pleomorphic adenoma (n=7),myoepithelioma (n=1),lymphoma (n=2),rhabdomyosarcoma (n=1),secretory carcinoma (n=1) and NTRK-rearranged spindle cell neoplasm (n=1).Pleomorphic adenomas displayed diverse density and signal with continuous and progressive enhancement; myoepithelioma was characterized by significant progressive centripetal enhancement; lymphoma presented slightly higher density,slightly higher signal on T1WI,uniform density/signal and significantly restricted diffusion on DWI; rhabdomyosarcoma was lobulated with uneven density,significantly high signal on DWI and significant continuous progressive uneven enhancement mainly in periphery; secretory carcinoma had characteristic slightly high signal on T1WI and low signal on T2WI,restricted diffusion,enhancement characteristics of rapid entry and slow exit; NTRK-rearranged spindle cell tumor grew around facial nerve,mainly low density on CT,isointense on T1WI,hyperintense on T2WI with obvious and uniform enhancement.Conclusions The enhancement manifestations and MR diffusion imaging of rare parotid gland tumors in children have their own specific characteristics.Malignancy degree and pathological type of tumors may be preliminarily predicted.
