Advances and future trends in minimally invasive surgery for pediatric hepatobiliary pancreatic and splenic diseases
- Keywords:
- Hepatectomy; Splenectomy; Pancreatic Diseases; Child; Precision Minimally Invasive; Robotic Surgery
- Abstract:
- Minimally invasive surgery (MIS) has achieved remarkable success in adult surgical practice due to its advantages of reduced trauma, faster recovery, and improved cosmetic outcomes. However, the unique anatomical characteristics of children, such as limited abdominal space and delicate vasculature and nerves, mean that pediatric patients cannot simply be regarded as "miniature adults," posing specific challenges to pediatric MIS.In recent years, with continuous advancements in surgical instruments and technologies, the application of MIS in pediatric surgery has expanded substantially, demonstrating significant value particularly in the management of hepatobiliary, pancreatic, and splenic diseases. This article reviews the current applications and future trends of MIS in pediatric hepatic, biliary, splenic, and pancreatic surgery, and further analyzes how the concept of precision minimally invasive surgery is driving the development of pediatric surgical care.It is important to emphasize that "minimally invasive" is not the ultimate goal; rather, the central aim is to maximize clinical benefit by adopting a patient-centered,individualized approach tailored to each child’s condition.
