From guidelines to practice: Reflections on standardizing treatments of Wilms tumor in children

- Abstract:
- Wilms tumor (WT) is the most common kidney tumor in children. Thanks to comprehensive protocols involving surgery plus adjuvant/neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy when necessary, the overall survival rate of WT children has significantly improved.Despite a generally favorable prognosis for most cases, some still face the risks of lower survival rates or long-term treatment-related side effects. These risks are related not only to tumor’s inherent biological characteristics but also non-standardized clinical treatment practices. This review systematically addressed several controversial issues concerning the standardized treatment of WT,drawing upon the relevant domestic and foreign literature and personal clinical experience for readers’ references and comments.
